The main powers that a character gets are combat powers, but this isn't really different from 3e. Whereas in 3e you would have to choose between good combat spells and interesting noncombat spells, in 4e you automatically get both, in your combat powers and your noncombat rituals and utility powers. I'm a little concerned about how much I'm going to like the new version due to that fact, but I'm still gonna give it a try.
